BYD will be responsible for the Full EPC Solar with delivery of the assembled and functioning plants and Orion-E will distribute this energy
BYD has announced a historic partnership with ORION-E Sustainable Energy for the construction in Full EPC format of 1,000 power plants of 100 KWp each, adding up to a significant 1OO MWp over a two-year period.
The partnership focuses on the 3 Marias Project developed by Orion-E, aimed at producing and delivering clean, renewable energy by leasing land from small rural producers for the installation of photovoltaic plants, producing solar energy in the form of distributed microgeneration.
In the project, BYD will build the plants through its accredited integrator partners throughout Brazil and Orion-E Sustainable Energy will be responsible for distributing this energy by leasing these plants to the end customer. BYD will be responsible for the Full EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction), i.e. the delivery of the plants in the "turn-key" model, installed and working.

ESG
The project serves as an instrument of social inclusion, with the potential to reach part of the almost 4 million rural producers registered as family farmers throughout Brazil. The partnership raises the income of these families by up to 40%, with contracts for a period of up to 30 years. Thus adding the "S" of ESG to the project.
The positive environmental impact of the project is the mitigation and compensation of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions from the almost 30 GW of power plants that use non-renewable fuels. There is also the agreement that all the plants built will have their components recycled at the end of their useful life by the Beta-O recycling company, which belongs to the Orion-E Group. This is the "E" in ESG.
As a governance practice, which completes the "G" in the acronym, MegaWatt Validated was created, a seal that guarantees the standard of the segment's operations in the national territory, bringing more security to the entire market and its stakeholders.
Inclusion in large-scale projects
In addition to the social and environmental benefits, the photovoltaic solar energy market will see the first large-scale project designed exclusively to democratize clean, renewable energy, proving that solar energy serves everyone and not just a specific class.
"Renewable energy, including solar energy, arrived in Brazil late, but in the right way. If we look closely at the opportunities that Law 14300 brings to the sector, it's clear that 2023 has all the potential to be the year of renewable energy, with legal certainty and proven auditing for good practices. Orion-E's generation and distribution projects continue apace, offering affordable energy even with the new market rules." Says Marco Aurélio - COO Orion-E
"Orion-E's 3 Marias Project is a project with purpose and BYD wants to help build this dream. Today we have lower installation costs, increasingly significant technological advances and a global call for a sustainable transition of the energy matrix. Allied to this, the increasingly high costs of electricity, the current regulation and legal certainty of the Brazilian photovoltaic sector, and the total opening up of the electricity market, should certainly boost the decentralization and democratization of the generation of energy itself," says Sócrates Rodrigues, Project Director at BYD do Brasil.
"In addition to photovoltaic modules, BYD will provide a complete solution, carrying the brand of a manufacturer present in Brazil, something unprecedented in the history of the solar energy market. To give you an idea, the figure of 100MWP is very significant. By way of comparison, the 1,000 plants will have the capacity to supply the equivalent of 30,000 homes," concludes Marcelo Taborda, Sales Director at BYD Energy do Brasil.
